I hate this term.
"wokeism" has become a catch all phrase for everything that tends to come from the "far left" or the super liberal crowd and the term "woke" has nothing to do with those ideas.
The first time I remember hearing the term "woke" used in a certain context of being "aware" was on an Erykah Badu song called "Master Teachers".
The terms "woke" and "master teachers" are terms that were popularized from the "black conscious" community meant to signify enlightenment, learning, and growth.
Now "wokeism" has come to signify an assault on our personal freedoms.
But let's dissect this term "woke" or "awoke" or to be "awake".
To be awake means you are no longer sleep. "Woke" is slang for "awake"
When you are awake you are alert, aware, and conscious of your surroundings.
Sounds a lot like situational awareness doesn't it?
I keep beating the drum on situational awareness because that is your first line of defense. To be aware of your surroundings is how you avoid a fight before it comes, and the only fight you can be sure to win is the one you don't have.
I go in depth on how you can use situational awareness in my "How To Develop Your Personal Safety & Home Defense Plan" classes. This class gives you the all the foundational skills needed for your "1st line" of self-defense.
I offer these classes virtually as well you can learn more here.
In the meantime...Stay WOKE!
When in doubt...TRAIN!
